Mojo Motorcycles Pty Ltd., the Australian distributor for CFMOTO, has released a new 400cc quad bike that complies with stage 2 of the Australian Government mandatory Consumer Goods (Quad Bike) Safety Standard.

The Australian Government announced the introduction of the Consumer Goods (Quad Bike) Safety Standard in October 2019. This standard is being introduced over two stages. The requirements under stage 1 must be met by October 11th 2020, and the requirements under stage 2 by October 11th 2021.

CONSUMER GOODS (QUAD BIKE) SAFETY STANDARD

The mandatory legislation that applies to all new ‘general-use’ quad bike models sold in Australia is outlined below:

STAGE 1 (by October 11^th 2020)

All quad bikes must meet the specified requirements of the US quad bike Standard ANSI/SVIA 1-2017 or the EN 15997:2011 Standard.
All quad bikes must be tested for static stability using a tilt table test and display the angle at which it tips on to two wheels on a hang tag at the point of sale.
All quad bikes must have a durable label affixed, visible and legible when the quad bike is in operation, alerting the operator to the risk of rollover and must include rollover safety information in the owner’s manual

STAGE 2 (by October 11^th 2021)

All general-use model quad bikes must be fitted with, or have integrated into the design an operator protection device.
All general-use model quad bikes must meet the minimum stability requirements of:
- Lateral stability – a minimum TTR of 0.55 (28.81 degrees)
- Front and rear longitudinal pitch stability – a minimum TTR of 0.8 (38.65 degrees)

MOJO MOTORCYCLES TRANSITION STRATEGY

Over the next three months, Mojo Motorcycles will be introducing an updated range of CFMOTO quad bikes that meet stage 2 requirements of the Consumer Goods (Quad Bike) Safety Standard. The entire CFMOTO quad bike range will be updated to meet the requirements of stage 2 by October 2020 – one year ahead of the mandatory timeline.

“We want to reassure Aussie farmers that CFMOTO quad bikes are here to stay,” said Mojo Motorcycles Director, Michael Poynton. “By introducing a new quad bike range that complies with stage 2 of the Consumer Goods Quad Bike Safety Standard requirements by October 2020, one year ahead of the mandatory timeline, shows our commitment to remain in the Australian market. Following our own assessment of the Consumer Goods (quad bikes) Safety Standard in 2019, we made the decision to remain in the Australian market with CFMOTO quad bikes”.

A requirement under the standard is that all general-use quad bikes meet new minimum stability requirements. Mojo Motorcycles engaged Crashlab in Sydney to perform the required tilt angle testing and CFMOTO customers will be pleased to hear that the entire range of CFMOTO ATVs exceeded the minimum tilt angle requirements.

The lateral stability requirement is a minimum TTR of 0.55 (28.81 degrees), whereas the front and rear longitudinal pitch stability requirement is a minimum TTR of 0.8 (38.65 degrees). The CFMOTO CFORCE 400 model for example, comfortably exceeded these minimum standards, recording 32.6 degrees (lateral) and 44.6 degrees (rearward pitch). To assist customers when researching ATVs, tilt angles for all CFMOTO quad bikes will be displayed on the relevant model pages on the CFMOTO Australia website.

Stage 2 of the standard also requires the fitment of an operator protection device (OPD). To meet this requirement, Mojo Motorcycles worked closely with Quadbar, an Australian OPD manufacturer located in Clifton, Queensland, on a tailored OPD solution that is installed by their Dealer network during the pre-delivery process.

“Quadbar was one of two OPD manufacturers listed in the Government standard. Being an Australian made product with 13 years of research and development invested in their design, we viewed them as a good partner to work with for the supply of OPDs to meet the requirements of stage 2 under the standard”, continued Poynton.

The decision to release an updated model range one year in advance of the mandatory regulation is to help execute a smoother transition for CFMOTO customers and Dealers.

To ensure all CFMOTO quad bikes are stage 2 compliant by October 2020, Mojo Motorcycles will be working closely with their Dealer network to supply the required items to meet the standard, including Quadbar OPDs. This will mean that all CFMOTO quad bikes sold in Australia from October 2020 will be fitted with a Quadbar OPD.
