Drawing on a 125-year history of boarding education, Loreto Normanhurst is proud to channel its rich boarding legacy into a new forward-thinking facility equipped to meet the diverse needs of the contemporary boarding community.

Unveiled as part of the schools 30 Year Master Plan, the purpose-built Loreto Normanhurst Boarding School will deliver increased student accommodation, flexible communal spaces and reflect the school’s vision to create a modern, ecologically sustainable home for boarding students.

The new boarding school is testament to Loreto Normanhurst’s commitment to remain at the edge of innovation and will see the school grow its community of boarders to over 200 students.

“As we boldly look to the future, we know that what has been right for boarding for the last 125 years, may not be for the next 125 years. Our new state-of-the-art Boarding School has been designed with the needs of current and future Loreto boarders in mind and ensures we can continue on our mission to shape women of our times,” said Loreto Normanhurst Principal, Marina Ugonotti.

With a culture of fostering friendships for life, the innovative design of the Loreto Normanhurst Boarding School includes multiple gathering spaces, intended to facilitate enhanced social connection.

As the ‘heart’ of Loreto Normanhurst, areas of the new boarding school will function as a resource for all. It will welcome day students, boarding families, and friends to designated areas of the boarding school to strengthen community connection and extend the hospitality intrinsic to the Loreto boarding community.

The Loreto Normanhurst Boarding School redevelopment will also support the enrichment of diversity within the Loreto community and broaden accessibility to the holistic education first envisaged by Loreto foundress, Mary Ward.

As Ms Ugonotti continues, “We are immensely proud to provide access to Loreto Normanhurst education to rural, and Indigenous girls through our boarding program. Our commitment to the meet the modern needs of boarders through our new Boarding School, ensures we are equipped to help continue breaking down the considerable barriers to education and employment faced by these students.”

The state-of-the-art Loreto Normanhurst boarding school will also support the unique culture it fosters throughout the school community.

“The Loreto approach to boarding is inherently holistic and in support of the social, emotional, and academic growth of students. It is the diversity of our boarding community, rich with experiences and stories, that fosters a grounded and authentic culture throughout the whole school. Through our new boarding school, we will enhance the school experience for boarders and indeed the entire Loreto community.”

The Loreto Normanhurst Boarding School is due to commence construction in 2023 and be completed to welcome boarding students to their new home for the 2025 school year.
