Of droughts and flooding rains on the Hay Plains
Hay Plains farmer and photographer Alix McFarland has captured the amazing transformation of one of the flattest places in the Southern Hemisphere.
Floodwaters from the Murrumbidgee and Lachlan Rivers and months of rain have morphed much of the Hay Plains from a drought-induced desert into a giant lake.
Floodwater and much of the lake is expected to remain in the region until the New Year.
“You know how we grew up hearing our folks and grandparents saying ‘back in ‘74’ or ‘back in ‘56’. Well, this year has definitely earned ‘back in ‘22’ status,” Alix said.
