More flood pressure on fresh food prices
The price of fresh produce is expected to rise further due to the latest flood crisis in the Sydney Basin, Hunter and mid-coast regions.
“A lot of Sydney’s food is actually grown within the Sydney Basin, and lot of those vegetable producers have been particularly hard hit,” NSW Farmers CEO Pete Arkle told Today Extra.
“A lot of those winter vegetable crops they planted have been washed away.”
The latest downpour is thought to have wiped out around $1 billion worth of fresh produce in the Sydney basin.
